I just noticed that CNN redesigned their website. I really like it. It's simple, has a good color scheme. It still bares the CNN identity, just with a modern twist. The slight rounded edge, the simple buttons, nice colors (red, white, black), good navigation.
Though, it's rather sad that Lindsay Lohan is in their 'hot topics" stories.

I have just received my new Canon Powershot A710IS in the mail today - from that stupid company Abes of Maine, that swindled and tricked me into buying rechargeable batteries. I don't trust this place after what they did, even tricking me on the shipping. I bought 7$ 4-6 day shipping, and yet, the camera arrived 2 days after I ordered it. I have a feeling that even if I got the free group shipping, it would have come in on the same time. Sigh. What can I do. I should be happy I finally have a camera and I hope to God this one isn't used or something else is wrong with it (I bought it at the cheapest price possible, $261).
Once I return these current batteries and buy some nice new fancy batteries, expect more pictures.

Does the camera box usually come shrink-wrapped? Mine didn't...

I really like screen printing.
This was done using a photo stencil. And through the complicated process of coating and exposure, my print didn't come out as I had originally planned. It's a halftone dot bitmap image, and half of the image got blown out during exposure. But that's okay, this will work just fine for what I have planned next.

Follow up story to my earlier post about the Girls of Engineering calendar:

There was an article in the DI about this a while ago and here are some lovely excerpts. Please read and laugh:

I know my blog is pretty much made up of photographs and fun. But when I find something that stirs anger deep inside me, I want to speak my mind.

So recently I was invited to a group called "Girls of Engineering" on facebook, which states that "We're a 12 month full color wall calendar featuring U of I's hottest engineers...Smart can be sexy!"

I went to the website. I saw some of the production stills and it just pissed me off. This calendar just bugs me so much. It's not promoting anything positive in my opinion. It's just justifying all of the stereotypes that women have. For example, women who are smart usually aren't sexy. Okay, so they're trying to say "No, smart can be sexy." Which states that sexy has to mean being physically attractive and posing in skimpy lingerie [see production stills here and here]. Posing in a bikini on a motorcycle? How stereotypically "sexy" can you get. Doing a calendar like this only perpetrates a stereotype of smart women not being attractive. It's as if the only woman deemed worthy enough to be placed on a picture above my August month is one who is attractive and showing off her body.
There's even a sample calendar. What the hell is that? It's a poorly designed calendar with a girl topless [?] and showing off her butt. I just don't understand why these girls would degrate themselves and disrespect the other girls in the U of I Engineering programs for something this stupid. It's obvious the company doing this isn't interested in providing anything positive for the university and its engineering program. It's just trying to make some money off of stupid buyers by doing that whole "smart IS sexy. For instance, look at this young college girl's ass and tits."

Well, this blog has finally been redesigned. Though, I don't really like it anymore because I kept changing it around and taking a long time to finish. It won't look right in Internet Explore because IE is stupid and crappy and doesn't support fixed CSS positions. Therefore, if you are one of the few people still using IE, you should probably switch to Firefox. Not only because it's a better browser, but also because you won't get to see my blog as it should.

It's really weird redesiging blogger because you can't really change much stuff in the html, and there's so much code that I just go with what I have. And I don't even know that much, sadly. But you can see that it scrolls weird and that it's not perfect. I don't know, I'll keep it up for some time.

Wellllll, the school year's over. And so is the Bromley Hall Family legacy. It really was sad when we all left. Especially after watching our glorious Bromley Hall Family Photo Montage, which consisted of 400+ pictures, 5 songs and lasted about 20 minutes. So many good times. I'm going to miss all our good times of just sitting around, watching the Food channel, ridiculous drunkeness and just general havoc-wreaking and jackassery. Here's to us.

I got zero constructive criticism in class today because Henry made class be outside. So it's a little ridiculous and hard to hold up a 7.5 in by 5 in little piece in front of a bunch of people while the wind's blowing. And so I don't know what I'm doing with this.

Well, I'm at work. It's 8:50 in the morning. And there is only one person in the lab. I knew it would be empty. Who the hell would walk in the rain to come here. I sure as hell wouldn't want to.
Speaking of the rain, I hate it. Especially when I have to walk in it.

I've been having a horrible week since Monday. Eveything just went wrong and was out of my control. I'm just glad it's finally Thursday and that it's gonna be over.
Here are the parts of the week, good or bad:
+ I registered for classes on Monday. Here is my schedule.
- I wanted to take all these different classes but they all ended up being at the same time. Which sucks because I had to choose which ones to take. And that was hard. And I couldn't even take the last required class for my IT minor, which is only offered in the Fall. It's a class that meets once a week, and conviniently is on Thursday during the time that the majority of the art studio classes I wanted to take are. So if I don't have time to take that class during my senior year, I am screwed and won't get my minor.
- Holy shit the builing just shook because of thunder.
+ I got 24/7 access to the computer lab because I work here.
+ I'm Junior Manager for Star-Course for Ad Design for next year.
- The Art school is a piece of shit and I hate how the graphic design program is set up. There's only 2 stable teachers and the rest are coming and going. They merged Typography 2 and Image Making 2 into one class for fall semester, which is bullshit. And then for Spring semester next year they're mering another two classes into one. Also, one class that we're supposted to take at some point isn't offered anymore. It's all falling apart. Even the Juniors are having the same experience, of bad teachers and weird classes that have no sequence. I've lost faith in getting a good education, it's not going to happen unless some miracle occurs next year.
- Henry has finally gotten to me and I can't handle Image Making and Typography anymore because the class is ridiculous and I just sit there bitter and angry and his horrible teaching methods. This is another reason why I've lost faith in the art school.
- My portfolio blows because of the 2 reasons above. I'm not gonna get anywhere after I graduate.
- Other stuff happened that I'm not gonna talk about.

I can't believe I actually pulled it off. This isn't what I had originally planned to do, but it came out so nice. I love it. I'm so proud of myself. All this with the wonders of CSS. This was an accumulation of like 2 days of on-and-off work. I was reading alot about style sheets and then just trying out all this sheet.

Image Making was ridiculous today, it was so fun. We didn't do anything. Henry put us in groups earlier and we are to go out and photograph outside. He bought props for each group and which we randomly got assigned to - there was over a dozen red small buckets, 50 foot length wooden stakes and bright marking tape [the kind of stuff you see on construction sites], a 100ft of foam and then long pink fabric. Me and my group really wanted the buckets, man, those would be awesome to work with. But instead, we got the damn stakes. What can you do with the stakes except stick them in the ground! At least we got the bright colored marking ribbon thing.
And then after class I was looking at the foundations show and Henry was getting some coffee and he stopped by to talk to me and we chatted about the show and then he told me that he enjoys having me in class and that I have a good eye and I do good things and that I'll do great things in life. AWWWW. Yayaya.

So. I had a pretty decent week. The highlight of the week were that Henry gave out little homework. AND also, for our first two photo projects for Image Making - Henry made us vote for our top 5 favorites, in no order. Both of mine got the highest votes. :) [The self portrait and then the man-made vs nature diptych] That made me feel so proud. Not to inflate my ego, but mine were the best! I don't know. It just feels good to know that I actually have good ideas, concepts and executions and that people like what I do. Maybe this just shows the lack of talent in the graphic design departament? Who knows.

In other exciting news, Metric's Hardwire and The People are tied on my playlist for the highest play count - 196 times. Omgs1!1!

Last week at the art building, I lost my room key. And now, on Sunday, I lost my small headphones [the ones that stick in your ears]. It's killing me because I now have to use the ultra-shitty ones that iPod provides. And I bought those heaphones in the beginning of the year! So they were still new and... it's not fair, I say. What a waste.

Here's some things that I want in a greedy-like fashion:

OH! Also, today in my ARTS440 class, my teacher showed us a lot of links to really cool webpages. One of them is this artist named Young-Hae Chang. She makes these flash 'works of art' that are just text flashing in front of you.
I recommend viewing The Struggle Continues. It's long, but it's really fun and playful.
It's all about love and sex. Have your speakers turned on, because there's jazz music that goes with it. It starts out slow and as it keeps going, the text flashes fast and you get really into it. So stay till the end. "The struggle continues for stark-naked love."

I've been spending so much time in front of the computer screen or staring at my camera. My eyes are starting to hurt. I used to sit and stare at my monitor for hours because I chose too and wanted to mess around in Photoshop. Now I HAVE to. It's a weird feeling. What once was a hobby is like a chore of hard work. Aren't forks cool? Oh, wait, they're not that cool after you've taken 56 pictures of the damn thing and then proceeded to spend several hours drawing different variations of said fork. At least my pictures came out hella cool. Stay tuned for more picture of the FORKtm.

P.S. I'm really suprised that 50% of you use a screen resolution that's 1280 x 1024. I guess we just keep moving up and up. Remember when every monitor was 800 x 600? And those were the only wallpaper dimensions you could find? I myself use 1152 x 864. So this is good because I can screw around with the layout of my blog so that I have more room for posts.
